Flint Technical Geosolutions presented at the Geo-Waste 2022 Conference: “Innovative Use of High Strength Woven Geotextiles in the Safe Closure of Sludge Lagoons.” The traditional answer to lagoon closure — in-situ solidification — is expensive, slow, and not always practical. Field-seamed HSWG cap reinforcement offers a proven alternative.
How HSWG Cap Reinforcement Works
FTG’s field services team seams large panels of Flintex™ high-strength woven polypropylene geotextile on site, often fabricating sheets that cover acres of lagoon area. The geotextile acts as a reinforcement layer and sludge separator, allowing cap fill to be placed safely above very low-strength sludge — often at a fraction of the cost of solidification.
Advantages Over Solidification
Cost: Often a fraction of in-situ solidification on large lagoons. Speed: Field seaming and installation are faster than multi-stage mixing and curing. Performance: Bi-directional tensile strength and rip-resistant weave provide reliable reinforcement under dynamic construction loading. Track record: IFAI award-winning results at Coronet Industries (160+ acres across 4 phases).
